Major League Baseball - MLB
We can admit that our baseball business is not what it used to be. They (MLB) appears to have all the answers. The Professional business (pre-pandemic) of baseball is suffering. Fans just cannot keep up with the ebbs and flows of the business of baseball and the whims of ungrateful owners and executives. One year it is sign every free agent because that is the model the "fill in the blank" has followed. Then two years later "build from within" get rid of all the high priced talent!
"It's morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep his money."
..... W. C. Fields
The only time they show any real moxie or sharp elbows is when they threaten your county, city or state government with “you do not want to lose us, we generate so much money and local pride!” Forget the facts that 85% of the players and top executives live elsewhere in the off season.
But then again they have you longtime season ticket holder, thank you for being so loyal. We are going to reward you with a five year rebuilding effort. Sure you are watching AA or maybe AAA ball but we are going to charge you big league prices! In fact be sure to renew for next season, 6 months before "opening day" or lose your cherished seat allocation status.
Letter from the President or owner. "Thank you again for your support, we are happy to report that we will only be increasing your season tickets by 5%! " I know we have missed the playoffs for the past 15 years and we are making a bundle on selling all the games you go to on local television and radio, but heck, why sit at home when you can park your car at the stadium for a modest $50. Plus enjoy a bucket of stail popcorn for $10 and cold beer for $13!
Anyway, you get the picture. The value proposition is not in your favor and well as long as you keep spending lavishly on your underperforming franchise, nothing is going to change.
